Image description

The image shows a modern compass rose that has eight principal winds or compass point directions, listed clockwise: four cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) and four intercardinal or ordinal directions (northeast, southeast, southwest, northwest) directions.

The intercardinal winds are located in the middle of the distance between two consecutive cardinal winds. For example, between the north and the east, there will always be the north-east halfway.

The four cardinal directions are rendered by a rhombus, or a star shape with four corners, filled with grid texture.

Each corner tip indicates a cardinal direction, as follows: up is the north, bottom is the south, right is the east, and left is the west.

The intercardinal directions are marked by an inclined rhombus, or a square with curved sides, embossed, placed behind the rhombus with the cardinal directions.

Each corner tip indicates an intercardinal direction, as follows: in the upper right corner is northeast, in the lower right corner is southeast, in the lower left corner is southeast, and in the upper left corner is northwest.
