Image description
The image shows the face of a person who expresses the emotion called pride. This emotional state is reflected on the outside, through different facial expressions. There are forty two individual muscles in the face, that are activated by the respective emotion, and impacts facial expressions on the facial elements: forehead, eyebrows, eyelids, nose, cheeks, lips, chin.
The face is oval, rendered blank, outlined, with a broad forehead and a square jaw. The wide ears, on either side of the edge of the face, are rendered as two vertically elongated ovals, marking the earlobe. The nose, in the center of the face, is long and ends at the base, above the lips, with a convex or curvy tip with wide nostrils, on either side.
The eyebrows under the forehead are not at the same level, and rendered as two slightly sloping lines, embossed, with curved outer corners. The right eyebrow is much more arched and higher. The eyes are rendered as two empty horizontal ovals, very flattened, in the center of which is the eyeball highlighted by a thickened circle.
The mouth under the nose is closed, with the lips sealed together, the lower one, fuller, being rendered blank, and the upper one, thinner, highlighted by a thick wavy line, with the right corner arched upwards.
The hair on the head is cut short, starting from the edge of the forehead, and on either side it frames the face above the ears, left and right, being shown embossed.
In the case of pride, the eyes are exceedingly narrowed by the bags under them which become more prominent, being pulled up the eyes by the muscles below them and rendered by a short line, inclined towards the nose, on either side of the lower part of the eyes. The lowered eyelids are highlighted by a short, horizontal line, above the eyes, just below the eyebrows.
The mouth is closed, and the right corner of the mouth is pulled up by the lateral muscles, which stretch the skin to the right of the mouth and lift it towards the upper cheekbone. The right cheek is bulging, being much more prominent than the left one and highlighted by a dashed line curved towards the corner of the mouth. This is the crease of the skin that delimits the dimple in the corner of the mouth from the protruding upper cheek. This conceited, rude smile is called a smirk.
